Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused the Centre on Friday of undermining the MGNREGA scheme, a key initiative aimed at social justice.

The former Congress chief highlighted that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, enacted in 2005 by the Congress-led UPA, was designed to lift the poor and provide them with dignity through employment.

Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Modi for reducing budgetary allocations, deleting job cards, and delaying payments, yet simultaneously relying on the program's success. He emphasized MGNREGA's continued importance in uplifting marginalized communities and fostering India's growth.
