The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the transfer of the investigation into the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision supersedes a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The CBI has also secured permission from another court to conduct a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal, and five others in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at the hospital.

Protests have erupted across West Bengal, with BJP activists and junior doctors demanding immediate action and protesting against the state government's handling of the issue.
