The prime suspect in the sexual assault case involving a schoolgirl at a fake NCC camp in Bargur allegedly died by suicide on Friday, police have reported.

According to officials, Sivaraman consumed rat poison prior to his impending arrest on August 19. He was initially receiving treatment for a fractured leg at the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri but was later transferred to the Salem facility as his condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to his death.

Sivaraman was facing legal action along with ten other individuals for organizing the sham NCC camp, where multiple girls were sexually assaulted. Opposition parties AIADMK and BJP have expressed skepticism over the circumstances of Sivaraman's and his father's deaths, suggesting possible foul play and cover-up efforts to protect the actual offenders. They are calling for an in-depth investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to uncover the truth.
