A court in Pakistan has extended the detention of Farhan Asif, 32, allowing investigators an additional four days to interrogate him regarding his role in disseminating false information that triggered riots in the UK earlier this month.

The court's decision comes a day after authorities charged the suspect with cyber terrorism following his arrest in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province. Asif, a freelance web developer, appeared in court under tight security and was not permitted to speak to the media.

Kiran Muqeem, a prosecutor for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), informed the court that Asif was uncooperative during initial questioning. Officials allege that Asif spread fake news about a British teenage suspect involved in a stabbing attack, which led to a violent mob attacking a mosque. Asif's lawyer criticized the court's expedited handling of the case, stating that his client was not given a fair hearing.
