Calcutta High Court Queries Delay in SIT Formation Over Financial Irregularities at RG Kar Medical College

The Calcutta High Court is inquiring about the delay in forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College, a year after the allegations first emerged. Former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali has sought an Enforcement Directorate investigation against ex-principal Sandip Ghosh.

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday questioned the West Bengal government regarding the delayed formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This comes a year after the allegations first surfaced.

Former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali moved the court seeking the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) involvement in probing these irregularities allegedly committed by former principal Sandip Ghosh.

During the hearing, Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj expressed concern over the year-long delay in constituting the SIT. The matter is set for further hearing on Friday. Ali stated that he reported the irregularities to state authorities in 2023, a disclosure that only gained traction after Ghosh was removed following a separate rape-murder case at the hospital.
