BSP Leader Rao Calls for Caste Census to Ensure BC Reservation in Andhra Pradesh

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Poornachandra Rao on Tuesday asserted that a caste census is imperative to secure reservation for Backward Classes (BC) in Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that political power has largely been concentrated between two dominant castes over several decades.

Speaking at a state-level BC roundtable conference, Rao highlighted the social and political marginalization faced by BCs in Andhra Pradesh, 77 years post-independence.

Rao detailed that from 1983 onwards, the state's political arena has been dominated by the Reddy and Kamma communities. He emphasized the critical need for a comprehensive caste census to ensure BC reservations in legislative and local bodies.
