Union Information and Broadcasting Minister L Murugan today stressed the imperative role of state governments in ensuring the protection of doctors, particularly women, by adhering to Central guidelines.

Speaking in reference to the recent rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, Murugan urged state governments to take their responsibilities seriously regarding the security of medical professionals.

Additionally, Murugan clarified that the release of a commemorative coin to mark the centenary of late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was devoid of political motivations. He noted the participation of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, emphasizing the gesture's recognition of Karunanidhi's societal contributions.

The minister pointed out that similar honors have been extended to leaders across various political parties in the past.
