A 50-year-old man allegedly killed his wife after a quarrel in Paonta Sahib town of Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district, police reported on Monday.

The accused, Sohan Singh from Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh, had been living in a rental home with his 44-year-old wife, Raksha Devi of Mashva village, in Paonta Sahib's Taruwala area.

After a quarrel around 11:30 pm on Sunday, Singh reportedly hit his wife on the head with a blunt object, leading to her death. Neighbors and the landlord rushed her to the sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sirmaur) Yogesh Rolta informed PTI that the suspect was apprehended near Bangaran Chowk early Monday morning.

Based on the couple's daughter's statement, a murder case has been registered. The body has been handed over to the woman's family after the post-mortem.
