The family of Asaram Bapu's rape victim has called for increased security following the self-styled godman's release on a seven-day parole for medical treatment.

Asaram Bapu, convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl in his Jodhpur ashram in 2013 and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018, was granted parole by the Jodhpur High Court for medical treatment at an Ayurvedic hospital in Maharashtra.

The victim's father expressed fears for his family's safety, referencing past threats and violence against witnesses in the case, including the murder of key witness Kripal Singh in 2015.
