SC Judge Warns Against Non-Compliance with Court Orders
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of Pakistan’s Supreme Court emphasized that non-implementation of court orders constitutes a constitutional violation. Addressing a minority rights conference, he asserted that executive bodies must comply with Supreme Court decisions, criticizing recent parliamentary actions that potentially undermine judicial authority.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of Pakistan's Supreme Court warned that failure to implement court orders would explicitly violate the Constitution. He made these remarks during a minority rights conference, underlining that disregarding Supreme Court judgements is not an option.
Shah, in line to succeed Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, insisted that the Constitution mandates implementation of court decisions. He described compliance by executive bodies as a constitutional obligation, not a choice.
His comments follow parliament's recent law aimed at restricting independent candidates, which Shah indicated could infringe on judicial authority and the principle of the separation of powers. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has already challenged this new law in court.
