Lebanon Faces Dire Need for Aid Amid Potential Israel Conflict
Lebanon faces immense challenges in meeting aid needs if a full-scale war with Israel erupts. Minister Nasser Yassin states that Lebanon would require $100 million monthly for essential needs like food, shelter, and healthcare. The country, already grappling with economic crises, seeks increased international aid amid ongoing border clashes.
Lebanon is on the brink of an aid crisis as it braces for the possibility of a full-scale war with Israel. A senior official revealed that the nation would struggle to meet even a fraction of its aid needs in such a scenario.
Nasser Yassin, the minister overseeing contingency planning, told Reuters that Lebanon would require $100 million monthly to cover basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare in a worst-case scenario. 'A small fraction, even 10 to 15 percent of that, would be huge for the government. We will need donors to step up,' Yassin stated.
International assistance is already falling short, with Lebanon receiving only a third of the $74 million sought during the 10-month conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. Yassin emphasized the severe cuts in humanitarian funding, pointing out that many organizations have reduced their support to a minimal level.
