Colorado Funeral Home Scandal: Owners Ordered to Pay $950M
Colorado funeral home owners Jon and Carie Hallford were ordered to pay $950 million to victims' families in a civil case for allegedly storing 190 decaying bodies and sending fake ashes. The judgement is likely symbolic due to their financial troubles. Criminal charges are pending in separate cases.
Colorado Springs funeral home owners Jon and Carie Hallford have been ordered by a judge to pay $950 million to the families of victims. The Hallfords allegedly stored 190 decaying bodies and provided fake ashes to grieving families.
The judgement, however, is expected to remain unpaid due to the Hallfords' longstanding financial difficulties. Attorney Andrew Swan, representing the families, noted that the owners did not acknowledge the civil case or attend any hearings.
The Hallfords, owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home, now face separate criminal charges in connection with the scandal.
