On June 29, 2024, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) introduced the e-Sankhyiki portal aimed at improving data management and accessibility across the country. The portal features two primary modules: Data Catalogue and Macro Indicators.

The Data Catalogue Module provides a comprehensive list of the Ministry's major data assets, allowing users to search and download data with ease. The Macro Indicators Module offers time series data for four key products of the Ministry, with tools for filtering, visualizing, and accessing detailed metadata.

To ensure the security of this data, MoSPI has implemented several data safety measures over the past three years. These measures include the storage of data in the National Informatics Centre (NIC) cloud facility, security audits of applications, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) implementation, and adherence to guidelines from agencies such as NIC and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). CERT-In, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), also conducts various activities to enhance data safety, including issuing advisories, organizing training sessions, operating the Cyber Threat Exchange platform, and formulating a Cyber Crisis Management Plan.

This update was provided by Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for MoSPI, the Ministry of Planning, and the Ministry of Culture, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
