Mali Cuts Ties with Ukraine over Controversial Comments

Mali announced the immediate termination of diplomatic relations with Ukraine after controversial comments from a Ukrainian military intelligence spokesperson about recent fighting in Mali's north. The clashes had resulted in significant casualties among Malian soldiers and Wagner mercenaries.

Andriy Yusov, the spokesperson, hinted on July 29 that the Malian rebels had obtained critical information for the attack. This has led to Mali accusing Ukraine of participating in what it terms a 'cowardly, treacherous and barbaric' assault.

The Malian government has denounced this as a breach of its sovereignty and an act of foreign interference. Additionally, Ukraine's ambassador to multiple African countries has been summoned to explain his nation's stance and alleged support for terrorism.
