Mayawati, the BSP chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, voiced her opposition on Sunday to the Supreme Court's recent verdict that permits sub-classification within Scheduled Castes (SCs).

Addressing a press conference, she stated, 'The sub-classification of people within SCs and Scheduled Tribes (STs) has been permitted, our party doesn't agree with it at all.'

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court delivered a landmark ruling, stating that states have the constitutional authority to make sub-classifications within the SCs to provide reservations for the uplift of castes considered to be more socially and educationally backward. Mayawati contended that SCs and STs have historically faced atrocities as a unified group, making sub-classification unjust.
