In a decisive move following the tragic incident in Old Rajinder Nagar, where three IAS aspirants drowned, the Delhi government will introduce legislation to regulate coaching centres across the city, announced cabinet minister Atishi on Wednesday.

During a press conference, Atishi explained that a committee consisting of government officials and students from various coaching hubs will be formed to draft the new law. The proposed legislation will cover infrastructure requirements, teacher qualifications, fee regulation, and measures to prevent misleading advertisements. Public feedback will also be sought.

The minister further revealed that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has already taken action, sealing basements of 30 coaching centres operating illegally in areas such as Rajinder Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Preet Vihar. Notices have also been issued to 200 other centres. A magisterial report on the incident will be submitted soon, and strict action will follow if any officials are found negligent.
