Senior Hezbollah Commanders Targeted in Recent Israeli Strikes

An Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital killed Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's top commander, Tuesday, marking the latest in a series of targeted assassinations. This wave of violence has been ongoing since October amid increased hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel's military.

According to Israeli sources, approximately 350 Hezbollah fighters have been killed since the conflict began. Shukr, a prominent figure in Hezbollah since its inception by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, was accused by the U.S. of involvement in the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut and had a $5 million bounty on his head.

Other high-ranking commanders recently killed include Mohammed Nasser, Taleb Abdallah, Wissam Tawil, and Saleh Arouri. Each played significant roles in Hezbollah's operations and their deaths have further escalated tensions in the region.
