Radical Islamist preacher Anjem Choudary was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 28 years by a UK court on Tuesday. Choudary, who holds dual British and Pakistani nationality, was found guilty of directing the terrorist organization Al-Muhajiroun (ALM) and encouraging support for it through online meetings.

The 57-year-old preacher was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court, where Justice Mark Wall deemed his actions as having the 'highest culpability.' Judge Wall emphasized that organizations like ALM normalize violence for ideological causes and disrupt peaceful co-existence.

Choudary has been linked to ALM since its founding in 1996 and continued its operations under various names. Despite a previous conviction for supporting ISIS, he resumed his activities soon after restrictions lifted. A joint investigation by UK, US, and Canadian authorities led to his arrest, highlighting the ongoing threat he posed.
