The Punjab Police on Sunday announced the busting of an international drug network with the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of over Rs 1 crore in cash in Amritsar.

The arrested suspects were identified as operatives of foreign-based drug smugglers Gurjant Singh alias Bholu and Kinderbir Singh alias Sunny Dyal, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

The detainees, Dilbag Singh and Kamaldeep Singh, residents of Tarn Taran district, were apprehended alongside a money counting machine and two mobile phones.

DGP Yadav explained that the Counter Intelligence wing in Amritsar received intelligence that Bholu and Sunny Dyal were running an organized crime syndicate involved in drug trafficking and the illegal distribution of weapons across the state. They had tasked their operatives to collect drug money and send it through the Hawala route.

During a targeted operation based on these inputs, police teams captured Dilbag and Kamaldeep at a rental property on Fatehgarh Churian Road, Amritsar.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the arrested individuals were in constant communication with Bholu and Sunny Dyal via encrypted social media platforms and were planning to send them the cash using the Hawala route.

Bholu and Sunny Dyal have several criminal cases against them due to their involvement in these illicit activities, DGP Yadav added. Further investigations are underway to uncover more connections in this case.
