The opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir have postponed a crucial meeting that was originally scheduled for August 7 to discuss several pressing issues concerning the Union Territory. The decision to postpone came after National Conference president Farooq Abdullah expressed his inability to attend the meeting.

Senior CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami announced the postponement, noting that no new date has yet been finalized. The meeting was expected to address key amendments to the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019.

These amendments delegate more powers to the lieutenant governor, particularly in areas like police and the Indian Administrative and Police Services, as well as sanctioning prosecutions. All political parties, excluding the BJP, have criticized the amendments.
