In New Delhi today, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, chaired an inter-ministerial roundtable aimed at developing a systematic approach to employment data collection. The meeting focused on creating synergies across various Ministries and Departments to record and integrate employment data effectively, drawing from the outcomes of various schemes, programs, and projects.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, also attended and praised the Ministry of Labour & Employment for organizing the consultation, emphasizing that such discussions should become a regular practice.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that the Union Budget 2024-25 is centered around youth and employment. He elaborated on the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) package, which includes three new schemes designed to benefit both employers and employees and enhance job creation. He also discussed significant labor reforms, such as upgrades to the eShram portal and revamps of the Samadhan and Shram Suvidha Portals.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Mandaviya stressed the importance of integrating various employment data sources currently dispersed across government agencies. He noted that while many ministries and departments run schemes that generate substantial employment, the data is fragmented and needs to be unified.

To address this, he proposed forming a Core Group consisting of different Ministries, Departments, and industry representatives. This group would regularly meet to create a cohesive approach and link disparate data sources, providing a comprehensive view of employment generation across the country.

Dr. Mandaviya also highlighted the industry’s need for a skilled workforce, urging the preparation of youth with relevant skills and professional qualifications. He called on industry bodies to offer internships to young people, facilitating job placements and contributing to the overall goal of improving lives.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials of 19 different Ministries and Departments, as well as representatives from industry associations like the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The session was marked by intensive discussions and valuable insights aimed at enhancing employment data integration and youth employment opportunities.
