Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Anurag Gupta has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Jharkhand. The announcement was made through a government notification on Friday.

Anurag Kumar Gupta, currently the Director General of Crime Investigation Department and holding additional charge of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Jharkhand, will take over from Ajay Kumar Singh. Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer, had served as the state's DGP since last February following the retirement of Neeraj Sinha.

Ajay Kumar Singh has now been appointed as the Managing Director of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Ltd. This shift comes in the wake of a Supreme Court directive that resolved a prolonged dispute regarding the appointment of the state's DGP.
