Minister of Internal Affairs Brooke van Velden has announced that New Zealand’s online safety website for children and young people, Keep It Real Online, has achieved a significant milestone, reaching one million page views.

In a statement, van Velden expressed enthusiasm about the website’s impact: “It is fantastic to see so many young people and their families utilizing Keep It Real Online to enhance their online safety and address potential digital risks. The site offers valuable advice and resources on a variety of topics, including online bullying, digital scams, and privacy issues, catering to parents, teachers, and young people alike.”

The Minister highlighted recent updates made to the website based on community feedback. “We have added new content to both the parents’ and youth sections and will continue to enhance the educators’ section in the coming months,” she said. These updates aim to provide comprehensive support for addressing online safety concerns.

Van Velden acknowledged the growing worries among parents about their children’s online experiences. “The Keep It Real Online website offers practical advice for talking to your children about online issues and provides information on various third-party controls, such as search engine filters and social media privacy settings,” she added.

Managed by the Department of Internal Affairs, the Keep It Real Online website is accessible at https://www.keepitrealonline.govt.nz/. It features resources in multiple languages, including Chinese, Hindi, Samoan, English, and Māori, to ensure broad accessibility and support for diverse communities.
