Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Thursday potential airlift operations for rain-hit residents in Pune, following relentless downpours that have resulted in four deaths and substantial flooding in residential areas.
Shinde communicated with Pune district officials, civic chiefs, and industrial township Pimpri Chinchwad leaders. He also engaged with the Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for potential evacuation efforts. ''We have instructed them to airlift people if necessary. There is no need for concern,'' the chief minister affirmed.
The administration has been directed to remain on high alert, making requisite arrangements to prevent further loss of life. Shinde is closely monitoring the situation along with Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, who is overseeing efforts from the state secretariat in Mumbai. Early Thursday, three men attempting to move their submerged handcart in the Deccan area drowned, and one person perished in a landslide in the Tamhini ghat section in Mulshi tehsil. Efforts are underway to evacuate residents from flooded low-lying areas.
