Bushra Bibi, the wife of incarcerated former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, expressed serious concerns regarding his safety in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, alleging inhumane treatment and contaminated food.
Speaking informally to journalists at the prison, Bushra disclosed fears for her own life, as reported by The Express Tribune newspaper.
She highlighted past incidents where Khan was allegedly poisoned and shot at, stating that their legal request to investigate these claims remains unaddressed by the court.
Describing the unsanitary jail conditions, Bushra, 49, said that the 71-year-old Khan appeared emaciated, spending nights picking insects from his hair.
Criticizing the treatment of political prisoners, she claimed that others received VIP treatment while Khan lacked basic amenities.
Khan, held in Adiala Jail since his August arrest in a corruption case, faces over 200 charges, with some convictions.
In response to a journalist's question on Bushra's allegations of being poisoned, she stood by her claims despite no physical evidence.
Khan briefly interrupted, cautioning his wife about media limitations, causing journalists to protest asserting their objectivity.
The session concluded with Bushra and Khan's oath to their innocence, despite Bushra's insistence on addressing the media.
While Bushra remains in jail on separate charges, a Pakistani court acquitted both in the un-Islamic marriage case.
