A man was arrested in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for allegedly posting a video on social media boasting about his illegal liquor business, according to a police official.
The accused, Ashraf Pathan, a history-sheeter with several prohibition cases to his name, appeared in the Facebook video with multiple cartons of liquor bottles behind him. In the video, he was heard saying, 'If you do business, it should be something illegal,' which quickly went viral on social media.
After the video caught police attention, Pathan, a resident of Gomtipur, was detained for questioning. He asserted that the video was shot at a liquor shop in Ajmer, Rajasthan, and uploaded as a social media reel. Since the video conveyed a wrong message, he was arrested under section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for creating a public nuisance. The Gujarat Prohibition Act bans the manufacture, sale, and consumption of liquor in the state.
