Around 100 members of the All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) expressed their grief over the death of seven students during quota system protests in Bangladesh by demonstrating at Park Circus in Kolkata on Thursday.

The activists carried placards condemning the alleged actions by security forces against student protestors in Bangladesh, chanting slogans of solidarity.

Protestors, including women, gathered before Lady Brabourne College and tried to march towards the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, but police stopped them near the Park Circus seven-point crossing.

Four representatives were allowed to submit a memorandum to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, demanding an end to attacks on peaceful demonstrators and the restoration of campus normalcy.

The AIDSO called for an immediate dialogue between the Bangladesh government and the protesting students to resolve the issue and prevent further loss of lives.

Fresh violence erupted in Bangladesh on Thursday as students attempted to enforce a nationwide shutdown after an overnight lull.

Protestors vowed to enforce a complete shutdown following days of demonstrations and violent clashes, which resulted in seven deaths.

Violence began on Monday when activists of the ruling Awami League's student front confronted protestors who claimed the quota system hindered meritorious students' enrolment in government services.
