The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the Centre's stance on a petition by a woman, categorized as 'extremely poor,' who was denied an LPG subsidy under the Ujjwala Yojana due to her prior gas connection.

Justice Sanjeev Narula issued a notice, instructing the government to respond to the petition. The petitioner asserts that despite meeting the necessary criteria, she is being unjustly excluded from the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which is designed for those without existing gas connections.

Claiming the denial is discriminatory and violates Article 14 of the Constitution, the petition highlighted that the petitioner is entitled to a subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder from May 21, 2022, and Rs 300 per 14.2 kg cylinder from October 5, 2023. The next hearing is scheduled for November.
