Thailand's Constitutional Court to Rule on Move Forward's Dissolution

Thailand's Constitutional Court announced on Wednesday that it will hand down its verdict on August 7 regarding the case seeking the dissolution of the opposition group Move Forward, the largest party in parliament.

The case originated from an election commission petition that aims to disband Move Forward over its plan to amend a law protecting the powerful monarchy from criticism, a campaign the party dropped earlier this year upon the court's order. The party has denied any wrongdoing. 'The court has considered that there is sufficient evidence to make a decision on the case,' the court said in a statement.

This announcement follows a previous ruling by the Constitutional Court in January, which stated that Move Forward's efforts to change the royal insult law were secretly aimed at undermining the monarchy. Though the court ordered the party to cease its campaign, it did not impose any further punishment at that time.
