The Karnataka cabinet approved a landmark bill mandating 100% reservation for Kannadigas in Group C and Group D roles in private firms. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who announced the decision on Tuesday, noted it aligns with the government's pro-Kannada stance.
The bill, set to be tabled on Thursday, outlines requirements for local candidates in management and non-management positions. Candidates lacking a secondary school certificate with Kannada as a language must pass a proficiency test.
If qualified candidates are unavailable, establishments must train them in collaboration with the government. Non-compliance will result in penalties, with fines ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000, escalating upon continued violation.
