US Intelligence Uncovers Iranian Plot to Assassinate Former President Trump

The United States received intelligence in recent weeks about an Iranian plot to assassinate former President Donald Trump, according to a CNN report citing informed sources.

The report indicated no connection between the plot and a 20-year-old suspect involved in a shooting incident targeting Trump on Saturday. Intelligence had alerted the U.S. Secret Service and Trump's campaign prior to the rally, a national security official confirmed to CNN.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi stated that the agency had recently enhanced protective resources for Trump's security detail. The Secret Service did not respond immediately to Reuters' request for comment.

The agency faces scrutiny because the gunman was able to gain access to a rooftop unimpeded, firing shots that grazed Trump's ear, killed a rallygoer, and wounded two others.
