The Government of India has taken a decisive step by declaring Hizb-Ut-Tahrir (HuT) and its front organizations as terrorist groups under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Announced through a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) gazette notification, the declaration cites HuT's efforts to establish a global Islamic state and caliphate, which includes targeting democratically elected governments through jihad.
The MHA highlighted HuT's activities involving the radicalization of youth and motivation to join terrorist outfits like ISIS. According to the notification, these activities promote terrorism via social media, secure communication apps, and Dawah meetings, posing a significant threat to India's internal security.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government's stance on the matter, emphasizing the Modi administration's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. Shah announced on social media platform 'X' that the action against HuT is a part of this strategy, aimed at ensuring national security and sovereignty by countering terrorism aggressively.
