Main Suspect Arrested in Gruesome Nairobi Quarry Murders

Kenyan police have arrested Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the main suspect in the discovery of nine dismembered bodies of women in a Nairobi quarry. Khalusha, who has confessed to killing 42 women since 2022, will be arraigned in court on Tuesday. Human rights groups urge expedited investigations.

Police in Kenya announced on Monday the arrest of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the main suspect linked to the discovery of nine dismembered women's bodies found in a Nairobi quarry.

Mohamed Amin, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, confirmed that 33-year-old Khalusha had confessed to killing 42 women, including his wife, since 2022. However, no evidence has been presented to substantiate his claim.

Khalusha is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. During a search of his home near the quarry, police discovered several smartphones and identity cards.

The bodies were initially found after relatives of a missing woman claimed to have seen the quarry location in a dream, leading a local diver to uncover the bodies wrapped in sacks.

Acting police inspector general Douglas Kanja noted that officers at a nearby police station have been transferred to facilitate an investigation after locals accused police of negligence regarding unresolved missing persons cases related to the quarry.

Human rights groups have called on Kenya's security agencies to expedite investigations into all enforced disappearance cases. Concerns were also raised that the bodies might be connected to recent abductions amid anti-government protests.
