Momo Seller and Property Dealer Arrested for Extortion Scam in Delhi

A momo seller and a property dealer were arrested along with a third accomplice for extorting money from a family by posing as officials from the BSES power discom. They threatened to file a case for the alleged misuse of a residential power connection for commercial purposes and demanded a Rs 12 lakh fine. Their arrests were made following the analysis of call records and CCTV footage.

Authorities have apprehended a momo seller and a property dealer, along with a third individual, for allegedly extorting money from a family by masquerading as officials from power discom BSES, police stated on Sunday. The suspects threatened the family with legal action for misusing residential power for commercial activities and demanded a fine of Rs 12 lakh.

Those arrested include Shammi Chadha, 62, a property dealer, Dilesh Kumar Paras, 59, a momo seller, and Shakil Ahmen, 46, after investigators analyzed call records and CCTV footage, officials confirmed.

The suspects, previously employed by a company subcontracted by BSES, exploited their knowledge of the discom's workings to intimidate victims, often targeting owners of under-construction sites by threatening fabricated legal proceedings.
