July 13 was once a public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir, commemorating 22 Kashmiris killed in 1931 by a Dogra ruler's army. The day was removed from the list of holidays in 2020, following the abrogation of Article 370.

Holding placards and shouting slogans, dozens of ASKPC activists staged a sit-in at the Raj Bhavan, decrying the alleged atrocities. 'The seeds of separatism and terrorism were sown on this day in 1931 when our community was targeted,' said an ASKPC spokesperson, emphasizing their call for justice and rehabilitation.
