The Assam government has announced two days of special casual leave in November 2024 for state employees to spend quality time with their parents or parents-in-law, the chief minister's office (CMO) reported on Thursday.

This innovative move aims to foster family bonding and respect for elders. However, employees devoid of parents or parents-in-law will be ineligible for these leaves, which cannot be used for personal enjoyment, the CMO clarified.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his Independence Day speech in 2021, initially disclosed the plan. The leaves are set for November 6 and 8, allowing employees to combine them with the Chhat Puja holiday on November 7, a second Saturday on November 9, and Sunday on November 10. Essential service workers can avail the leave in phases.
