Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that the Muslim population in the state is increasing by about 30% every decade, potentially making Muslims the majority by 2041.

Speaking at a press conference, Sarma noted that Muslims currently comprise 40% of Assam's population, according to 'statistical sampling'.

He emphasized that initiatives like the 'Nijut Moina' scheme, which aims to educate girls and curb child marriages, are critical to managing this demographic shift. Sarma also called upon Congress, especially Rahul Gandhi, to take an active role in population control measures.
