The latest report from the Delhi government reveals a significant drop in the city's sex ratio, down to 922 in 2023 from 929 in the previous year. Meanwhile, the city's birth rate stood at 14.66, and the death rate was recorded at 6.16.

The 'Annual Report on Registration of Births and Deaths in Delhi-2023' shows mixed trends. The infant mortality rate decreased marginally from 23.82 in 2022 to 23.61 in 2023. However, the maternal mortality rate saw an increase from 0.49 to 0.45 per thousand live births.

The total number of births registered in 2023 was 3,15,087, indicating a daily average of 863 births. The data, collected from 100 major hospitals, notes that 52.02% of births were male and 47.96% female. Interestingly, 95.58% of births were institutional while the rest were domiciliary. The report also details the educational attainment of mothers and its link to birth order.
