The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Uttar Pradesh has made significant strides in its probe into the catastrophic Hathras stampede, having recorded 90 statements thus far, according to Anupam Kulshrestha, the panel's chief.
Kulshrestha, who also serves as the Additional Director General of Police (Agra Zone), leads the three-member team tasked with preparing a detailed report on the tragedy that claimed 121 lives on July 2 after a satsang event.
In an exclusive interview, Kulshrestha revealed that a preliminary report has already been submitted, with work on a comprehensive report currently underway. He noted that the scope of the investigation has widened as more evidence has emerged. 'Definitely, the gathered evidence suggests culpability on the part of the event organizers,' he stated.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been briefed on the initial findings. Senior officials, including the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police of Hathras, are among those whose statements were recorded in the confidential report.
