The anti-corruption wing of Madhya Pradesh's Lokayukta department captured an assistant engineer, Nidhi Mishra, accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a contractor in her office on Wednesday.

Acting on specific intelligence, officers set a trap that led to Mishra's arrest while she was demanding and accepting illegal payments to settle the contractor's pending bills for work done under the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2020. Lokayukta DSP Rajesh Pathak briefed the media on the incident.

Pathak revealed that the engineer solicited the bribe to account for a delay in project completion and was also allegedly collecting on behalf of her seniors. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, with further investigations underway.
