A Bengaluru court on Monday prolonged the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) custody of JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna until July 3, following his arrest last month in a sexual abuse case.
The police filed an FIR against Revanna under various IPC sections including 377 (unnatural offence), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intent). Arrested on June 22 after a 27-year-old man's complaint of sexual assault on June 16 at Revanna's farmhouse in Hassan district, his CID custody was initially set for eight days, ending Monday. The magistrate then extended his remand by two days.
On June 25, a second sexual abuse complaint emerged against Revanna, alleging abuse three years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic. Revanna recently underwent a medical examination, including DNA and potency tests. The MLC is the elder brother of ex-JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, also facing sexual abuse charges, and the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.
