Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced the launch of the coalition Government's Q3 Action Plan, emphasizing a robust strategy to ensure the safety of New Zealanders and restore law and order across the nation.

The plan, comprising 40 key actions, aligns with the Government’s overarching goals of economic recovery, improved public services, and enhanced infrastructure. A significant component of the Q3 plan is dedicated to addressing law and order issues, with Prime Minister Luxon highlighting legislative measures aimed at combating criminal activity and supporting rehabilitation efforts.

Key legislative initiatives outlined in the plan include:

Cracking Down on Gangs: Introducing laws to empower police in restricting gang activities and banning gang patches in public spaces.

Gun Control: Granting enhanced powers to law enforcement to remove firearms from criminals.

Prisoner Rehabilitation: Improving access to rehabilitation programs for prisoners awaiting trial.

Judicial Efficiency: Enhancing court efficiency and accessibility to justice.

Additionally, the Government plans to introduce legislation to strengthen sentencing laws and establish a pilot military-style academy for serious and young offenders. Measures to enhance road safety, including legislation for roadside drug testing, are also slated for implementation.

Education reforms remain a priority, with initiatives aimed at introducing new or converted charter schools, drafting updated English and Maths curricula, and continuing efforts to improve school attendance.

Infrastructure development features prominently in the Q3 agenda, including legislation for sustainable water services, the launch of a $1.2 billion Regional Infrastructure Fund, and policy reforms to streamline project approvals.

Prime Minister Luxon emphasized the Government’s commitment to delivering on its promises, building on the successes of previous action plans, and maintaining momentum to meet the expectations of New Zealanders.
