A man killed by a mob here on suspicion of theft has been booked along with eight people on dacoity charges following a complaint by the mother of an accused in the lynching case, officials said on Sunday.

Mohammad Fareed (35) was lynched at the Mamu Bhanja locality on the night of June 18, leading to communal tension in the area. Seven individuals were originally booked, with six being arrested.

On Saturday, Lakshmi Mittal, the mother of Rahul, one of the six accused in the lynching case, lodged a complaint. Based on her claims, an FIR was registered for dacoity.

Mittal's complaint alleges that on the night of June 18, Fareed, alias Aurangzeb, entered her house and attempted to molest her before looting valuables.

She asserted that during the scuffle, her family members chased Fareed, who then lost balance, fell down the stairs, and died from the injuries. She named Salman, Mohamad Zaki, and six others in her complaint.

Police have lodged a case under IPC sections 354 and 395 against Fareed and the other accused. Circle Officer Rakesh Kumar Sisodiya mentioned that new facts brought to light have resulted in dacoity charges against seven named and two unnamed individuals.

The deceased's family's previous complaint claimed that Fareed was returning home from work when locals mobbed and thrashed him over suspicions of theft.

Superintendent of Police, City, M Shekhar Pathak, stated that by the time police arrived at the scene, Fareed was critically injured and was subsequently rushed to Malkhan Singh Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
