In a tragic turn of events, a village sarpanch in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district allegedly shot a woman dead and injured a girl following a dispute on Saturday night, confirmed police authorities.

The incident transpired in Banwas village under the jurisdiction of Jigna police station. Superintendent of Police Virendra Mishra disclosed that an initial quarrel erupted between Ratiram Yadav, a villager, and Ravindra, the brother of sarpanch Arvind Yadav, while consuming alcohol.
