A police personnel, suspended for his alleged involvement in criminal cases including murder, has been dismissed from service for prolonged absence from his duties in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, officials said.

Constable Sham Lal, who joined the Kishtwar district on November 9, 2023, faced suspension for prolonged absence and criminal activities. Granted three days' leave starting November 12, 2023, he failed to return to duty, resulting in his absence being marked. During this period, Lal was implicated in the murder of Rajesh Dogra, leading to a March 4 case being registered in Mohali (Punjab). Arrested by Punjab Police on March 7, he was subsequently sent to New District Jail in Nabha, a police spokesman stated.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar ordered Lal's removal from service based on recommendations from inquiry officers. ''A departmental inquiry indicated his involvement in other criminal cases in Kathua and recommended his dismissal due to habitual absenteeism and criminal behaviour,'' the spokesperson highlighted.

SSP Kishtwar warned all police personnel of strict disciplinary actions for engaging in anti-national activities, drug trafficking, or other serious crimes, underscoring a commitment to uphold the highest standards of conduct and discipline.
