Radical preacher and Khadoor Sahib MP-elect Amritpal Singh, currently in detention in Assam under the National Security Act, was unable to take his parliamentary oath.

Twelve other MP-elects from Punjab were sworn in on Tuesday, while Singh, who had requested a temporary release, was absent. Singh garnered 404,430 votes, defeating Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira by 197,120 votes.

Singh's detention was extended by a year from April 23 after being arrested following a lengthy manhunt. His father has not received any information on the government's response to the request for temporary release.
