National Conference (NC) leader Dr. Sameer Kaul has alleged that he was manhandled by traffic policemen on Tuesday in Srinagar. The prominent cancer specialist shared his ordeal following the incident that took place on Boulevard Road as he was traveling from his residence in the Nishat area to the airport.
'It is really unfortunate what happened. I have never seen this level of power drunkenness on the roads today,' Kaul said, expressing his dissatisfaction with the behavior of law enforcement.
According to Dr. Kaul, the traffic had been stopped for the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor's cavalcade. Despite following alternative routes as directed, he was ultimately stopped and allegedly assaulted by a group of traffic policemen. 'They showered abuses on me, rained blows on me without listening to me,' he stated.
Kaul reported sustaining injuries and physical damage to his belongings, questioning the motive behind the attack. He filed a police complaint at the Nishat police station and has called for a review of the current cavalcade system. 'You cannot hold the people of the state in ransom like that. How long will it go on like this?' he questioned.
