iDEX Signs Landmark 350th Contract with SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd

SpacePixxel Technologies has been instrumental in advancing high-resolution hyperspectral imaging satellites, which provide detailed earth observation data.

Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence, celebrated a significant milestone on June 25, 2024, by signing its 350th contract in New Delhi. The contract was inked with SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd for the design and development of a miniaturized satellite capable of carrying Electro-Optical, Infrared, Synthetic Aperture Radar, and Hyperspectral payloads up to 150 kgs. This project is spearheaded by the Indian Air Force.

Rapid Growth of iDEX Contracts

This achievement comes just 18 months after the 150th iDEX contract was signed in December 2022, reflecting the rapid pace of innovation and development within the initiative. The contract was exchanged between Anurag Bajpai, Additional Secretary (Defence Production) and CEO of Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), and Awais Ahmed Nadeem Alduri, Founder & CEO of SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd, in the presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and other senior officials from the Ministry of Defence.

SpacePixxel Technologies' Contribution

SpacePixxel Technologies has been instrumental in advancing high-resolution hyperspectral imaging satellites, which provide detailed earth observation data. The new contract enables innovations in space electronics, where payloads traditionally deployed on large satellites are now being miniaturized. This modular small satellite will integrate various miniaturized payloads as required, offering benefits such as faster and more economical deployment, ease of manufacturing, scalability, adaptability, and reduced environmental impact.

Emphasis on Indigenisation and Innovation

In his address, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane lauded the dedication of new defence innovators who continue to push technological boundaries. He emphasized the critical role of indigenisation combined with innovation, stating that domestic capabilities form the foundation for fostering innovation. By offering a platform for experimentation and development, indigenisation drives the creation of new technologies and solutions that can be produced domestically. The Defence Secretary assured the innovators of continued support at every step of their journey.
