Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has mandated the state's advocate general to actively intervene in the case concerning 45 Naga youths who were purportedly falsely charged in a call centre scam in Mohali, Punjab.

These youths were among the 155 individuals arrested in a May operation by the Punjab Police, which dismantled two fraudulent call centres in Mohali.

In a government statement released on Saturday, it was noted that Rio met with Nagaland Advocate General K N Balgopal in New Delhi to deliberate over the detention of the state's youths. Rio instructed Balgopal to urgently seek the release of these "innocent" Naga youngsters. Additionally, the CM has assigned the Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House in New Delhi to stay in touch with the families of the detained and to offer necessary support. Moreover, S Supongmeren Jamir, the newly elected Lok Sabha MP from the state, voiced his concerns over the situation and urged relevant officials to address the plight of the detained individuals from Nagaland.

The Punjab Police had previously reported that employees of these deceitful call centres were involved in defrauding people in the US.
