The National Statistical Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has published its latest report titled 'Statistical Report on Value of Output from Agriculture and Allied Sectors 2024'. This detailed document offers extensive insights and analysis on the output values of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, and Fishing sectors from the fiscal years 2011-12 to 2022-23. Key highlights from the report include a breakdown of the sub-sector contributions to the overall value of output in the Agriculture and allied sectors for the year 2022-23. Crops constituted the largest share at 54.3%, followed by Livestock at 30.9%, Forestry at 7.9%, and Fishing at 6.9%.

Within the Crop sub-sector, cereals and fruits & vegetables emerged as the predominant categories, together accounting for over 55% of the total output in 2022-23. While cereals led with ₹336.4 thousand crore in 2011-12, fruits and vegetables surpassed cereals by ₹15 thousand crore to reach ₹434.7 thousand crore in 2022-23. Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal emerged as the top producers of cereals and fruits & vegetables respectively during this period.

The Livestock sub-sector demonstrated steady growth, increasing from ₹487.8 thousand crore in 2011-12 to ₹878.5 thousand crore in 2022-23. Milk held the largest share at 66.5%, followed by meat at 23.6%, and eggs at 3.7%. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh jointly contributed a significant quarter of the Livestock output in 2022-23.

In the Forestry sub-sector, industrial wood, fuelwood, and Non-Timber Forest Products contributed 68%, 20%, and 12% respectively to the total output value in 2022-23.

The Fishing and aquaculture sub-sector also showed consistent growth, increasing from approximately ₹80 thousand crore in 2011-12 to about ₹195 thousand crore in 2022-23. Andhra Pradesh maintained its position as the leading producer in this sector, with its share in the national output rising from 17.7% in 2011-12 to nearly 40.9% in 2022-23.
